CHORLEY manager Ken Wright was happy with the Magpies' performance in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Nationwide Conference side at Victory Park on Saturday.
"The scoreline flattered Leigh, as their last two goals came late in the game," said Wright.
The game was all square at 2-2 with barely 10 minutes to go but a late double from Leigh secured a somewhat fortunate win.
"I was more than happy with the performance against a strong Conference side," he said.
Chorley had the best of the opening exchanges.
But it was Leigh, who took the lead on 20 minutes when new signing Noel Corrigan was unlucky to gift the visitors a chance when his header to keeper Simon Marsh was just short of its target.
Danny Mills, last season's leading scorer, had a goal disallowed for offside before the equaliser came from new striker Andy Mason.
But Leigh were back in front early in the second half when Marcus Hallows took advantage of keeper Marsh's hesitancy in coming off his line.
Substitute David Sutch put the Magpies back on level terms, converting a cross from Corrigan.
But eight minutes from time bad defending from a free kick allowed Leigh to get their noses back in front.
And seconds before the final whistle Paul Fleming brought down ex-Magpie Tony Black in the area.
Black himself converted the penalty to make it a flattering scoreline for the away team.
RESULT: Chorley 2... Leigh RMI 4...
