MANCHESTER City have won the First Division title after just one game.
A hastily arranged trophy presentation will will take place before the next home game against Crewe a week on Saturday and City will be moved straight up to the Premiership.
They've been given a wild card entry into this season's Champions League and the picture of Bob Paisley's all-conquering Liverpool team has been taken down at the Football League Museum in Preston to make space for the Maine Road master class of 2001.
Laurent Charvet has been installed as favourite for the PFA Footballer of the Year, Gerard Wiekens likewise for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year; a third spot has been created for City to take part in the Boat Race, they are well fancied for next year's Grand National and if Eyal Berkovic can get his hair a bit longer they're thinking about entering him for Crufts.
Outrageous? No more so than the hype surrounding one win.
