WET, wet wet was the outcome of both clarion rides on Sunday.
The C ride were unfortunate enough to have persistent rain for the duration of the ride to Whalley and back, the only respite being lunch and afternoon tea when refuge was sought in cafes on route.
The A ride fared much better on the 150 kilometre reliability run to Chester and back. Early light rain gave way to the odd shower as they progressed across Cheshire. Chester was dry on arrival but a light shower began as they left on the return leg, it was short and gave no cause to don waterproofs.
The ride over the hills of Helsby and Frodsham was quite pleasant, as were the lanes round Kingsley and Acton Bridge.
A dramatic change took place at Arley, heavy rain set in and would be with the riders all the way back to Bolton, waterproofs were found to be wanting against a downpour like this.
The certificates for today's reliability ride have been well and truly earned.
The B ride make a return this week with a half day ride on the Rivington circuit while the A ride head for Bolton Abbey in Wharfedale. Meet at the town hall square for both rides. 8.30.am. is the start time. Details on both rides from the Secretary, tel.01204 491595.
