Wanderers were on top of the world (and the Premiership!) at Filbert Street with a stunning 5-0 opening day result which made a mockery of the critics.

Sam Allardyce's men sit proudly on top of the table after taking dismal Leicester City apart - they led 4-0 at half-time.

Delighted Sam told Sky TV: "What a magnificent performance."

Kevin Nolan headed home Frandsen's cross in the 15th minute to give Wanderers - tipped by everybody as almost certainties for relegation - a fantastic start. Nolan's was the Premiership's first goal of the season.

But nobody could have predicted the goal blitz which followed.

In the 33rd minute Michael Ricketts powered past a defender to add a second and send Wanderers' 2,000-strong travelling army of fans wild.

Then in the 41st minute Nolan - who only scored once last season - was given acres of room to add Wanderers' third, and his second.

Wanderers fans worldwide could hardly believe it when Frandsen added a fourth in stoppage time.

Then there was the icing on the cake when man of the match Per Frandsen added a fifth in the 83rd minute to confirm the shock of the day - and put Wanderers top of the Premiership.
