THE impressive Reebok Stadium has been chosen ahead of grounds in London and on Merseyside to host a prestige veterans' challenge match between legends of Rangers and Celtic next month.
Organisers of the "Auld" Old Firm Challenge Cup match on September 2 are expecting a huge crowd when former Rangers idols such as Mark Hateley, Andy Goram and Ray Wilkins take on their Celtic rivals, who will include the likes of Frank McAvennie and Danny McGrain.
A sell-out 50,000 crowd saw the first "legends" fixture at Rangers' Ibrox ground in January.
David Dishon, of the recently formed Auld Old Firm Ltd, explained: "There were two reasons why we chose the Reebok Stadium: one, the demographics, because the North West is a stronghold for Rangers and Celtic fans; and two, the fantastic stadium.
"We wanted to take the fixture further afield after the success we had at Ibrox. We looked at London and Merseyside but we knew a couple of the Bolton directors, who have helped.
"Since the game is being played for charity, we were trying to get a reasonable stadium rent and police bill and the Reebok scored above grounds in London and on Merseyside."
