CONSERVATIONISTS in Bury are at the forefront of a regional campaign to preserve woodland flowers.
The initiative has been launched by Red Rose Forest TO establish colonies of native flowers.
Research shows roughly 10 species are being lost from each county in the North-west every decade.
The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers in Bury and Rochdale has launched the project in the borough. This involved a seed collection at Philips Park, Whitefield.
The seeds collected will now be sown in new woodland areas in Bury to recreate the flora and fauna of a true forest.
The Forest team has appealed for the help of people, schools and community groups in Prestwich and Whitefield to help with seed sowing, propagation and planting. For details, call 0161 872 1660.
