WITHOUT having to contest their final match of the season at Walshaw because of unfit ground conditions, Elton emerged as deserved 2001 league champions.

Golborne were forced to concede their match at Astley & Tyldesley due to player shortages - the Blackrod v Lostock and Darcy Lever v Clifton matches are to be re-arranged as soon as possible.

In the only match to be completed, Atherton secured a four wickets win at Spring View. The home team batted first and reached 110-1 with Steven Williams (53 ret) and David Gornall (28 no) both showing excellent form. Nathan Monks was the pick of the visitors attack.

In response, Atherton reached their objective for the loss of 6 wickets with Anthony Williams (29 no), Philip Williamson (25) and Paul Walsh (23) all scoring freely. Tom Kindred (3-29) and Craig Wilson (2-11) were the main wicket takers for Spring View. This match was played in a terrific spirit and this was typified when Atherton batsman, David Hook, declared himself 'out' whilst the umpire was apparently unsighted.
