A SURVEY of local roads identified a number of 'hotspot' areas -- including Bradshaw, Burnden, Bromley Cross and Horwich -- where roadworks cause journey times to double in rush hour.
But where do motorists encounter the most delays? The BEN took to the streets to find out.
Andy Witter, aged 21, a Leeds university graduate from Heaton: "Roads around the Reebok stadium are the worst. It's not just car drivers. Buses are a pain in roadworks and it is horrible."
Peter Birch, aged 55, from Astley Bridge, who drives down Blackburn Road each morning: "It is a horrible business driving in rush hour.
"It is unacceptable for a journey of a mile top take 15 minutes. Roadworks do delay people and they never seem to end. It is ridiculous."
Jackie Price, aged 51, a Housing Association project worker based in Bury: "The situation around Hough Lane is a nightmare.
"The closure is causing real problems and roadworks are something I feel very strongly about,.
"The biggest problem is when school buses for Cannon Slade stop and let children off. Nothing moves.
"Who wants to live in one big traffic jam because that is what Bromley Cross is. Times are the same going to work as they are coming home."
Her daughter Allana, aged 20, a travel againt from Bromley Cross: "It's chaos. I go to Manchester each day on the train.
"I will not even take the car to work. The roads are not big enough to hold the amount of traffic."
Linda Haddock, aged 28, of Little Hulton, who drives to Bolton from Westhoughton: "Visiting my mother-in-law in Breightmet is a problem.
"There are always roadworks but we never see anyone doing any work. They build houses everywhere but do not cater for the roads."
Ernest Forth, aged 62, drives to Raikes Lane Industrial Estate from Bromley Cross: "I am held up in Bromley Cross and St Peters Way. Rush hour has been extended because people are setting off earlier."
