MEMBERS of Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men have organised a night of dance during Bolton Festival.
Anyone who has never tried morris dancing is urged to join in the fun at the Sweet Green Tavern in Crook Street, Bolton, on Wednesday August 29.
The Horwich troop will be performing the Lancashire tradition of dance and it is hoped a group called Stone the Crows will show-off steps from the Border style of morris dancing which developed on the English-Welsh border.
Border morris dancers have always danced in disguise to avoid possible difficulties with employers and as the tradition grew up in a coal mining area, they often covered their faces with coal dust.
Anyone wanting to join in will be welcome to try out a few steps. Following the dancing at 8pm, there will be music and singing.
