Wanderers have stunned the Premiership with their winning start and go into the game against Liverpool bursting with confidence after seeing off Leicester and Middlesbrough.

They are without the vastly experienced Colin Hendry, who is still sidelined with the knee injury he picked up in the pre-season friendly at Southport, but Allardyce does have options with Gareth Farrelly, Djibril Diawara and Akinori Nishizawa all declared fit and has made it clear he would not hesitate in changing his winning formula, if he sees fit.

Wanderers have been buoyed by their flying start but they have not been deluded. They know their credentials will be tested to the limit by Liverpool and at Leeds on September 8 and accept they will need to retain possession better than they did on the way to beating Middlesbrough 1-0.

"We'll do well to get something out of them," Allardyce admits. "If we come out with two draws, it would be like two wins for me.

"All the players have had smiles on their faces and everybody's happy. Now it's about maintaining that. However hard it's going to be, we have to try and get results from these two games to keep the roll going.

"The opposition, lots of the time, will dictate how we have to play. We'll try to attack but many a time we'll be back in our own half trying to rely on our defensive qualities and our team unit and then catch the opposition with the pace we have in the side. We've got good pace and good goalscorers. And if we can find goalscorers all over the pitch like we did last year, we'll pinch a goal here and there and create one or two results and one or two upsets.

"The Leicester game was a golden day for us but the Middlesbrough game was more of a reality of what the Premiership is all about.

"There will be no easy games. We are just hoping teams will be thinking of us as an easy touch because they don't really know us.

"But if we hit top form we can surprise a few."
