BRITAIN is breeding a generation of couch potatoes, according to research by Bolton-based breadmakers, Warburton's.
As part of National Bread week , more than half of the under 25s showed a profound ignorance in health matters.
Despite the older generation becoming more health conscious, the young are happier letting life pass them by in their armchair.
Leading UK psychologist, Dr David Lewis analysed the survey's findings and said: "It seems clear that a significant proportion of young people are putting their future health at risk, whether through indifference or downright ignorance.
"They blithely assume that ill health is something that happens to others."
"Sadly, this is far from true with physicians reporting such health risks as high blood pressure and furred arteries among the under 25's, with young males being most at risk."
The Warburton's survey said that people aged over 45 are more likely to say that they feel fit and healthy and full of energy then their younger counterparts.
