I READ with interest your article on speeding (BEN: August 20) along Chorley New Road near Bolton School.

I was caught on two consecutive days, July 16/17, 1998, at the same spot. Having been to Chorley on business and returning to Bolton, I travelled at 40mph from Victoria Road and through the lights at Bolton School, where the 30mph has now been situated. It used to be nearer town (Park Road). Not having seen the 30mph sign or, indeed, the camera, I was caught twice. I appealed to the police, but to no avail and was fined £60 each time and six points on my licence.

I might add, I have been driving since 1946 and these are the only points I have picked up in all that time. I can understand how Mr Short feels and I hope he can do something about it.
