HOUSEBUILDER Persimmon plc -- parent company of Leigh-based Persimmon Homes (North West) Ltd -- has announced record results for the half year to June 30.
Net pre-tax profits (before goodwill and exceptional costs) are up 73 per cent to £83.9 million compared with £48.6 million in the same period last year.

The increased profit was achieved from 5,835 legal completions -- up significantly on the 3,483 in the first half of 2000.

Mr Derek Ryder, managing director of Persimmon Homes (North West) Ltd said: "The housing market remains strong and we are continuing to achieve forward sales at encouraging volumes and prices."
