GUDNI Bergsson could still have an international future, despite being out of Iceland's squad list for the last three three years.
National coach Atli Edvaldsson admits he made a conscious decision not to select the in-form Wanderers' skipper for the latest round of World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland.
But he has not ruled out the possibility of considering him for future internationals.
Edvaldsson explained: "I always pick my best players available for each assignment, with the long-term team stability view.
"I am working with a team that has kept key players for four years and I have brought new young players into the squad. Consistency is what counts and that is reflected in my selection.
"But I would like to repeat my earlier comments that I would like to be able to call upon Bergsson if and when the occasion occurs."
Bergsson, now 36, has not played for Iceland since a fall-out over travel arrangements with the former national coach Gudjon Thordarson, who now manages Stoke City.
