REGARDING the headline on Wednesday, August 29, about smear tests.
I am pleased that so many women are having the test, but I feel that the cytology department cannot cope with the numbers. I went for a routine smear test nine weeks ago and was told that the result would be back in four to six weeks, I am still waiting.
My practice nurse rang the department recently to chase it up and the test hadn't even been processed. The hospital said that I should have the result in about two weeks. Three months is a bit excessive don't you agree?
Although I haven't had any problems in the past, and, God willing, I won't have in the future, I still become anxious when awaiting the result.
