WALKING down Padbury Way the other day, I thought about a letter I had read in the BEN from Cllr Claire.

In it, he was, if I remember correctly, trying to get across to someone that tenants there days have a lot more say in the way things are done than they used to. To get this across, he spoke about the colour of the front doors, and how, years ago, everyone had to have the colour selected by the Council, and nowadays they were free to chose their own colour.

Well, or course, in those days the Council chose the paint because the Council did the painting. These days it seems, the tenant can choose, but the tenant buys and applies the paint.

But ironically, Cllr Claire, if I'm not mistaken, lives just off Padbury Way, in the middle to a huge council estate, where 99 per cent of the front doors are identical -- varnished wood.
