PLANS are underway for Bolton's biggest annual celebration of beers.

The Bolton Beer Festival 2001, which is being organised to raise funds for Bolton Lads and Girls Club, will run between October 10 and October 14.

Organisers hope to repeat last year's fundraising success when drinkers helped the event to make a £20,000 donation to the club.

The annual event is held in a marquee on the bowling green of the Howcroft Inn on Pool Street on the outskirts of the town centre. More than 200 different beers from around the country and even from abroad will be on offer to thirsty fundraisers during the five day festival.

Organisers of the festival are now urging local businesses to get involved by sponsoring barrels of beer. Each barrel costs £125 to sponsor and gives the business its company name displayed on the barrel and in the festival programme, four tickets to the Wednesday evening sponsors hour and tickets to a Friday lunchtime buffet.

Anyone interested in sponsorship for the festival should contact festival organiser Clive Nightingale by writing to the Bolton Beer Festival, c/o Bolton Lads and Girls Club, NWW 1308A, Bolton, BL1 2AZ.
