A MOTHER from Chorley has drowned on a trip to Blackpool despite repeated attempts by resue rews to save her.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said officers received reports from her husband that Lisa Berry, 37, had gone over railings and into the sea opposite Talbot Square, Blackpool shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday, September 1.
The police helicopter was scrambled and the coastguard launched a number of rescue attempts, but rough seas stopped the three-man lifeboat crew from reaching the woman, he said.
She was finally pulled from the sea just before 1am and taken to South Shore lifeboat station.
Paramedics took her to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, where she was formally pronounced dead.
A post mortem to establish cause of death is due to take place today (Monday, September 3).
The Police spokesman praised the three lifeboat crew members. "They are certainly brave men and they did a tremendous job in recovering the lady as quickly as they did," he said.
And he appealed for any witnesses to contact Blackpool Police on 293933.
