I REALLY do not need a lecture from Peter Inch of Kentucky USA on the qualities of plastics that could be used in the production of lamp posts. It is piontless and irrelevant.
The whole point of my letter was to make it clear that it shouldn't really matter if we have concrete or steel lamp posts because motorists are not supposed to drive on the pavement.
My suggestion was that instead of wasting money on the development of this plastic and then replacing existing lamp posts with plastic ones, it would perhaps be better to ensure that cars remain on the roads rather than on the pavements by erecting deflector barriers at the known black spots where these irresponsible speeding motorists frequently mount the pavement and collide with street furniture.
By the way Peter, as a retired engineer, I am aware of many of the attributes of modern day plastics.
I hope the plastic used in the production of lamp posts is fire proof. If not, as the gentleman who phoned me on Thursday evening said, the vandals will have a beano with them.
