IT'S the final week of the season and there are still issues to be settled at both ends of the tables.
No game will get bigger than the Monday Premier Division title decider between Farmers PSG and AKs Wrexham. They meet in the game that will decide who takes the championship crown.
Last time the two teams met, Mark Gornall's Wrexham came out on top in what was probably the game of the season, 14-13, with a last second winner. However, the same result would not be good enough, as defeats against the Howcroft and Charisma have left AKs needing to win the game by seven goals. They definitely have the fire-power up front, but it will all depend on whether they can break the Farmers' defence, which has been impressive all season.
Goalkeeper and team manager Chris Littler will be hoping he can produce the form he is capable of, making him one of the top keepers currently playing at Premier Fives. Farmers have only lost the one game all season, which was the one against Wrexham last time around, so they will no doubt want to gain revenge this time.
The Kings Men clinched promotion from Tuesday Sixth Division last week, when they beat 10 Left Feet 10-5. They now lie in top spot, needing just one point to go up as champions. However the point they need may not be so easy to get, as they face their B team on the last game of the season. Kings Men II are likely to finish mid table, but will no doubt want to beat their rivals after their earlier defeat against them in week seven.
Hope and Anchor have opened up a three point gap at the top of the U16 Premier Division on a Friday evening. This came after a very impressive victory over Red Diamonds 10-2. Paul McAbe's men will have no doubt been celebrating, but now they need to turn their attention to this week's game against second placed Halliwell Storm A, who are also unbeaten and still have a game in hand. Anchor brushed aside the Halliwell B team 3-0 three weeks ago, but the A side are sure to put up more of a fight, and their record speaks for itself -- they have lost only twice in 17 games and missed out on the title by just three points last season.
The new open age leagues start up again week beginning September 10. There is still time to register your team, and there are still Monday to Thursday slots available. To join simply call 01204 525333 and ask to speak to the manager on shift.
