LORD Baden Powell would have been so proud -- for two young scouts from Chorley have been selected to represent their town in the world's biggest scouting festival.
Gary Fairclough, of Ashfield Road, Anderton, and Craig Blackburn, of Rivington Avenue, Adlington -- both members of Adlington Scout Group -- have been selected to attend the 20th World Scout Jamboree in Satahip, Thailand, in 2003.
The 13-year-olds are busy trying to raise £1,700 each to pay their way, as only half the cost is covered by scout group funding. Phil Fairclough, Adlington's venture scout leader, said that the week-long festival is a truly massive event.
Gary and Craig are among 36 scouts chosen to go from scout groups all over West Lancashire.
To help raise money for Gary and Craig's fare, Adlington Scout Group are offering the chance to abseil the height of Everest. The 29,078 ft abseil takes place at Anglezarke Quarry on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, from 10am-4pm.
You can pay to have a go, or get sponsorship and bring along your form. Companies are also invited to sponsor the event. For information call Phil on 01257 481719.
