I REFER to the front page article in The Citizen "Throw away chip pans" in which John Taylor, press officer for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service suggests Chorley folk do just that.
Doesn't he realize he is asking people to throw away tradition and a way of life?
He may as well ask a Masai warrior to throw away his assagai, or nearer to home, a Londoner to stop eating that revolting dish, namely "jellied eels" and believe me there is nothing more offensive to the eye than watching someone performing this cockney ritual.
The point I'm trying to make is you cannot change tradition and a way of life overnight, unfortunately there are going to be a lot more chip pan fires before the message gets across.
Mr F T Morritt,
Bamber Bridge.
