Halligans and New Edition fought out a 1-1 draw, Danny woods scoring for the home side and Steve Wolstenholme replying.

Griffin started the campaign with a 2-1 win at Church Inn through goals from Tony Astbury and Barry Byrom, Mick Peake the home team marksman.

In Division Two Chris Corr and David Liversedge got Tonge United off to a flying start with a 2-0 home win over NW Paper.

Clint Aspinall netted a brace for FC Baroc but still finished on wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline as Alan Lunn, Shaun Kinsella and Paul Roscoe saw Jolly Waggoner rolling home.

Lane Ends already look a serious title challenger with goals from Paul Griffin and Darren Maloney sealing a 2-0 opening day victory at Hare & Hounds. John Smile (2), Craig Yates (2), Phil Swift and Chris Shiel saw Greenfield to a 6-1 romp at Farnworth Whites, Andy Kitchen cooking up the consolation goal.

The four fixtures in Division Three saw no less than thirty three goals rattled in. Seven Stars' John Schofield was the day,s top marksman with four in his team's 5-0 win at Beaumont, Nick Wallington the other scorer. Ryan Nicholson and Stewart Cameron scored hat-tricks, David Cope two and Phil Walton one in Bibbys; 9-4 home win over Doffcocker, David Pike, Barry Sudding, Liam Butler and Mark Longworth replying.

Tommy Cannon was firing well with two goals to add to strikes from Mark Blackshaw, Steven Pendlebury and Alex Williams in Farmers Arms, 5-3 win at Clifton Rangers, Gary French (2) and Gareth Jones replying. Lee Howarth (2), Phil Gibson and Garry O'Neill saw Hare & Hounds Breightmet to a 4-3 home win over Grapes Stoneclough. Matthew Gallimore, Lee Burns and Russell Fox scored for the losers.
