MOTORISTS using troubled St Peter's Way are facing further lane and speed restrictions.

Bolton Council will enforce a series of temporary traffic orders along the A666 from next week.

The proposed orders will hit motorists using Burnden Road. Highways chiefs say they are necessary to aid bridge repair work currently being conducted along the road.

Under the plans, there will be a 40 mph speed limit on the northbound carriagway from Loxham Street, stretching past the under-repair Raikes Lane bridge for four weeks. The order will come into force on September 16.

Vehicles using the southbound carriageway from Bradford Street Bridge to Loxham Street will also be restricted to 40mph for around one week.

Motorists will also be banned from using the northbound stretch of Burnden Road leading under St Peter's Way between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

One way traffic orders in Raikes Lane will be suspended to cater for the changes. Alternative routes for southbound A666 traffic will be signposted. MOTORISTS are facing traffic works next week in:

Disruptions will continue around Nelson Square and at bridges along St Peter's Way. Work has now also started to refurbish the Rosehill and Remploy subways along the road causing medium levels of disruption.
