A RESTAURANT owner was found hanging from the stairs by his wife, an inquest was told.
Abdullah Patel, aged 49, was suffering from depression following financial difficulties, Bolton coroner Aidan Cotter heard.
Mr Patel, who lived at Isabel Walk, Deane, was cut free by a relative after hanging himself using a belt and a plastic bag.
Police told the inquest that there were no other people being interviewed in connection with the incident.
Mrs Mehrunnisha Patel discovered her husband as she returned home from work at 12am on April 20.
She told the coroner that her husband had attempted to take his own life months previously by cutting his own throat.
Mr Patel came to Bolton in 1976 and went into partnership to own a restaurant in 1995.
But the inquest heard how Mr Patel grew concerned at the financial difficulties of the business and had become withdrawn.
A note was discovered in his pyjama pocket by his wife the day after his death.
A pathologist confirmed that the cause of death was by hanging and that an old six centimetre scar on his neck had been evident.
Mr Cotter recorded a verdict that Mr Patel took his own life whilst suffering from depression.
