IZZY, a terrier who comes with her own set of wheels, is not barking mad -- just in urgent need of a new home.
The black terrier cross was rescued from quarantine kennels after she suffered an injury that paralysed her.
Her owner, who brought Izzy to England from America, realised she would not be able to give her the care she needs.
Lauren Cole, a dog trainer, took the severely disabled dog to her home in Thicketford Road, Tonge Moor, and supplied her with a set of wheels, strapped to her hind quarters. She said: "When I found out that Izzy was in quarantine kennels because she had no home to go to, even though her confinement period was over, I had to do something."
Improvements
Mrs Cole says Izzy was soon racing around with her other dog, Blue. She said: "We have taken Izzy to a canine osteopath and have done a lot of strengthening work in water with her. We are already seeing improvements. Izzy can now lift her bottom off the ground and is able to wag her tail, so we hope she will continue to improve.
"She is such a character, she is more like a person than a dog. She likes having baths, loves to be cuddled, she has a lovely soft temperament and she is a lot of fun."
Because Mrs Cole works long hours and Izzy needs more attention than she can give her, she needs a new owner.
Mrs Cole said: "Ideally, Izzy would suit a retired couple who could give her plenty of care and attention. She is slightly incontinent if she gets too excited, so this would be better than families with children. She is a wonderful dog and I truly believe with the right care, she will get stronger."
