ANTI-NUCLEAR protesters are urging Prime Minister Tony Blair to oppose military action against the Middle East.

Bolton CND wants Mr Blair to deny the United States use of British bases, overflight facilities, and British intelligence.

The organisation does not want the UK to be drawn into a war against any Muslim country insisting: "This would be a war of the rich against the poor, the strong against the weak and would involve suffering and death for many Muslim civilians."

In a statement Bolton CND says: "Far from such an action eliminating terrorism, the intense resentment which such action would create would fuel it.

"And there are other dangers: there is for example a distinct possibility that Pakistan will be destabilised and a Muslim fundamentalist party come to power with access to nuclear weapons. "And in our own country the passions released by what President George Bush regards as a crusade against terrorism are likely to foster racism and attacks on Moslims. Indeed they have already done so."

Sardar Ayub Khan, of the Bolton Kashmir Welfare Association, has condemned the terrorist attack on America.

He said: "Muslims preach friendship not war. The people of Bolton just want peace and we are totally against the attacks on the States.

They were carried out by a minority."
