BUSINESS communications specialist Your Communications has backed a CBI call for the government to create a UK Centre for Cybercrime Complaints.
The CBI believes too little attention has been given to serious threats which put the successful development of major new trading channels at risk.
Howard Dickel, the Head of e-Security for Your Communications, said: "We believe the CBI is right to call for stronger measures in dealing with Cybercrime -- both through the setting up of an effective Complaints Centre and by strengthening the 1990 Computer Misuse Act to include measures covering denial of service attacks."
Mr Dickel went on: "What UK business needs right now is the confidence to get involved in e-trading and the support mechanisms to help create a safe and well-policed trading environment.
"We are already advising businesses on what they can do for themselves.
"If the CBI's calls gain Government support then there is a real opportunity to expand e-trading channels and boost business on the back of a secure trading environment. The success of the CERT Co-ordination Center run by the Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University in America has proved that appropriate recognition and funding from government can sustain an internationally-respected operation.
"By creating a national facility for reporting incidents that is backed by government and industry we can begin to reduce the likelihood of businesses being attacked through the dissemination of knowledge services."
