BRUNO N'Gotty hopes to help put one over on his former mentor Arsene Wenger tomorrow.

The 30-year-old defender learned a lot from the Arsenal manager during their time together at Monaco.

But he will put his respect for Wenger to one side as he bids to play his part in frustrating his former coach and maintaining Wanderers' shockingly successful start to the season.

N'Gotty, who will probably start from the bench at Highbury, recalled: "Arsene Wenger helped me a lot and he has turned Arsenal into one of the best teams in Europe so I have a lot of respect for him.

"The secret of their success is probably that he has brought a mixture of French and English styles. They are a bit more technical than they were before and he has made them into a good side."

He is impressed with his new team, too, which may not have the household name of a top team like Arsenal but which he believes contains an equally vital ingredient.

"Bolton is like a family team," he described. "The players are close to each other and they stick together.

"They fight for each other and have a good team spirtit and that appealed to me more than playing with big names."

It is a measure of Wanderers' standard of performance that a former Monaco, AC Milan and Paris St Germain star cannot walk straight into the team.

With a pedigree like that it would seem he will be hard to shift once he gets into the side, hopefully for him.

He added: "I hope to bring some stability and experience to the defence and maybe even score a goal or two.

"I am on loan to the end of the season but if everything goes well there is the possibility of a permanent transfer."
