FINGERS were being crossed and hopes high today -- as Bolton Hospice launched its own lottery.
More than 2,000 people, from all over Bolton and as far away as London, have already signed up for the weekly draw.
And in tomorrow's BEN -- and in every Saturday edition from now on -- the winning numbers will be announced.
The lottery is already set to be a big success. Hospice lottery manager Louise Ashworth said: "It's been absolutely great!
"There has been a real rush this week to be in the first draw and be part of the new scheme, but obviously people can join up at any time."
The new lottery will provide important funds for the hospice off Chorley New Road. It costs £1.3 million a year to run this vital service -- costs recently boosted by the opening of the new day unit to help even more local people.
She added: "I think this is what has appealed to people the most -- the fact that everyone knows that the money is going directly to helping the hospice help local people."
And, while it will not make any Bolton millionaires, the hospice lottery is certainly set to give plenty of people a quick boost to their bank balance.
Each week, there will be a £1,000 prizewinner, plus other prizes of £200, £50 and 25 x £10 prizes for the £1 weekly stake.
It costs £5, £13 or £26 for entry into the corresponding number of weeks. This can be sent along with your name and address to: Bolton Hospice Lottery, FREEPOST NWWW5884A, Bolton BL1 4ZZ.
Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to Bolton Hospice Lottery Ltd. Players should be 16 years of age or over, and the lottery office can be contacted on 01204-383467.
Watch out in tomorrow's BEN for the first £1,000 prizewinner.
