IN REPLY to your letter "Biblical Plea" (Your Views , name supplied, September 14).
Without meaning to offend the writer, I think if they read all of John 14 they would find maybe that Jesus is talking mainly to the disciples and not to the rest of the world.
John 14:21 is meant for them, not us. If you read on through the next verses, especially verses 22-23, where Judas not Iscariot says: "Why show yourself plainly to us (disciples) and not to the World?", Jesus replies (and these are the words for us, the world), he said: "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teachings."
You see, they had Jesus himself. We don't. We have his words, his teachings. And, as for the Holy Spirit mentioned in the letter at verse 20, it's actually at verse 26. It clearly shows in this context it was sent to help the disciples when Jesus was no longer with them in body, to guide them in carrying on the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, sent by his father the Lord God Jehovah.
As for Jeremiah 31:34, this is out of all context. Jeremiah is part of the Old Testament, long before Jesus was born, and Jesus is not mentioned. If you read verse 33, the verse before, you would see that the Lord God Jehovah was making a covenant with the House of Israel, and not at that time with us gentiles -- that was to come with the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As for Luke 11:13, I would agree totally.
