A WOMAN was seriously hurt in a car smash on Belmont Road today.
The middle-aged woman, who has not been identified, was driving a Fiat Cinquecento towards Bolton at 9.10am when she was involved in a collision with a Transit van heading in the opposite direction.
Paramedics rushed to the scene near the junction with Scout Road and administered pain-relieving drugs as she sat trapped in her seat.
She is believed to have suffered internal injuries and fire crews had to work quickly to cut her free as her condition deteriorated.
It took 15 minutes to cut off the vehicle's roof and door to reach the woman. She was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment, but her condition is not known.
Police sealed off Belmont Road for most of the morning and traffic was diverted via Scout Road while accident investigators examined the crash site. The Transit driver declined hospital treatment.
