A NEW parents suite at Bolton's Princess Anne Maternity Unit looks set to be open before Christmas.
The two-bed building, costing the Children's Hospitals Appeal Trust £155,000, is well on schedule after a summer of building work.
Earlier in the year, the Duchess of York visited the site and pledged her support to the project.
The scheme ensures parents have a private place to stay overnight when they need to be close to their baby.
Staff are now busy selecting colour schemes and furniture for the new rooms.
A corporate committee has now been set up to co-ordinate the scheme.
To launch the committee, a family fun day and giant lorry pull is being staged at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday, October 28.
Firms and groups in Bolton are being invited to volunteer teams of five to take part in the challenge.
Fundraiser for the project, Liz Oakes said: "It will be a day of fun and there will be many other attractions and guest appearances."
The unit is to be called the Simon Pennington Suite after the death of the Bolton man who died in a road accident in March 1999.
His mum, Irene, from Bromley Cross, Bolton, has just taken part in the cycling challenge across the Rockies in Canada to raise money for the charity and has previously worked tirelessly to promote the Children's Hospitals Appeal Trust.
Those who would like to take part in the lorry pull can contact Liz Oakes on 0161 276 8700.
