A CONTROVERSIAL housing development at a prime Lostock site is back on the table despite opposition from local people.

Last year councillors on the planning committee ruled that the site at the disused Lostock junction goods yard could be developed for housing but limited any possible building to just four homes.

They subsequently refused a planning application for demolition of the warehouse and the building of 18 homes on the site.

The developers took the matter to appeal but the secretary of state for the environment agreed with the council that too much traffic would be generated which would prejudice highway safety.

But the ruling has not put off builders and this week the council received a new planning application for the site, off Rumworth Road, Bolton from Bromley Cross based Stonemount Development.

They want to put up eight town houses and seven apartments on the land.
