The local youngsters who suffered a disappointing 6-1 defeat against Manchester in their opening league match, quickly went behind after three minutes when Michael Hazeldine fired home from the edge of the box and Salford soon added another through James Walsh.
Simon Bowman made it three with a superb left foot shot before Hazeldine added another couple to grab a first half hat trick and send Bolton in 5-0 down at the break.
It was a similar story in the second half with Bolton forced back into their own half for most of the game. Salford made it 7-0 with goals from Hazeldine and Walsh before Bolton opened their account with an own goal. Salford continued to press forward and it was no surprise when they added another couple through Walsh and Hazeldine.
