Missed chance costs Tempest victory
THE golden touch which has already brought him 11 goals this term deserted Tempest United leading goalscorer Darren Maloney last Saturday in a 2-1 defeat at Norcross and Warbeck.
A goal behind to a 30th minute strike in a scrappy first half United dominated the second period and got a goal back on 75 minutes through Andy Clarke.
Tempest applied the pressure in search of a winner, hit a post and then agonisingly just a yard out from goal Maloney got himself in a tangle and for once failed to convert. The home side broke away to steal a winner on 88 minutes. Charlie Cooper in the middle of the back four won the man of the match vote.
Tempest Reserves beat Poulton Town 4-1 with goals from Steve Myatt, Sean Whorlow, Martin Jones and 16 year old starlet Jonathan Ford.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division Eagley and Blackrod Town drew 1-1, Neil Johnson scoring for the Villagers and Mark Westworth for Town.
Two goals from John Openshaw earned Stoneclough a 2-1 home win over Tottington United in Division Two. Blackrod Town Reserves beat Fleetwood Hesketh 6-0 with goals from Saxon (2), Callow (2), Denson and Jordan. Roberts got the only goal of the game for Eagley Reserves away at Springfields. Harrison (3), Hyman and Dean goals eased Stoneclough Reserves to a fine 5-3 win at Wyre Villa.
