WITH the end of the cycle time trial season rapidly approaching all the attention of Lancs Road Club members is now focused on the club championship which will be decided over the next few weeks.
The year long event can now only be won by three riders, Mike Smith, Craig Battersby or Steve Marsh. Two of the above competed in a 10 mile event on one of the country's fastest courses on Saturday evening and could only be separated by 5 seconds. Battersby took the honours with a time of 20:58 whilst Smith produced a beating of his personal best time for the distance by over 30 seconds to finish in a time of 21:03.
Later in the afternoon in a tandem event on the same course, Mike was partnered by his eldest son Andrew and completed the race with a time of 21:59.
Next Sunday morning will see the next event in the LRC Club Championship in the form of the NLTTA Combined clubs 25. If Mike Smith can finish the event with a higher placing than Craig & Steve, then the championship will be his, otherwise the outcome will be decided at the last event, the LRC promoted hill climb.
LRC club runs will continue throughout the coming months with clubrunners normally meeting outside the Royal Oak pub on Tonge Moor Road at 09:00 on Sunday mornings. The ride on September 30th will be to the Lantern O'er Lune Cafe at Glasson Dock.
Anyone wishing to join the run should turn up on the day with a roadbike (and spare inner tube - just in case!) you will be made very welcome
