GUDNI Bergsson admitts that Wanderers are getting a taste for the high life.

Despite exceeding their own expectations by topping the Premiership table for longer than any other team this season and knowing victory over Sunderland will put them back in pole position, survival is still the prime objective for the Reebok heroes.

But the inspirational captain, who has been in magnificent form in an exceptional defence, reckons he and his team mates are enjoying life at the top.

"When you've been at the top or close to the top as we have, you kind of like that feeling," Bergsson says with a winning smile.

"But we are realistic. Our main objective is still to stay in the Premiership. That is the main task.

"Hopefully we can amass those 40 points we are looking for as quickly as possible, push on from there and see where it takes us ... as high up the league as possible."

Bergsson knows he and his fellow defenders face a testing time against Sunderland's Little and Large - Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn - but has nothing but respect for the team Peter Reid has fashioned into a Premiership force, just two and a half years after leaving Wanderers in the wake of their runaway promotion push.

"Sunderland are one of the teams that have shown you can come up from the First Division and cope well," Bergsson says. "They've been successful and so have Ipswich and Charlton.

"They've shown that if promoted sides can be well organised and get the basics right you are capable of doing well in the Premiership. That's what we are aiming to do."

Wanderers, who have Per Frandsen fit again after an ankle injury and are likely to have Michael Ricketts back in the starting line-up after being rested to substitute at Arsenal, go into the game determined to add to their points haul after losing to Southampton in their last Premiership home game.

"That was disappointing because you want to win your home games," Bergsson admitted. "But that is gone now. We followed it with two good performances at Blackburn and Arsenal and got points there which we were pleased with.

"You can't go game after game expecting everything to go your way. We weren't happy about our performance generally against Southampton but, hopefully, we can put that right tomorrow."
