THE BBC's Food and Drink supremo Anthony Worrall-Thompson is backing the national Water is Cool in School campaign which aims to promote a higher intake of fresh water among children.
The campaign hopes to see children choosing water over fizzy drinks because of the potential health benefits.
Mr Worrall-Thompson said: Our children must cut down on fizzy and sugary drinks and instead drink fresh water at regular intervals throughout the day."
And he called on the Government to introduce regulations over fresh water in schools so they can provide "adequate, hygienic and attractive" water points for pupils.
Campaign leaders say insufficient fluid intake could lead to fatigue and headaches as well as more serious health problems such as urinary tract infections, constipation and kidney complications."
Water cooler manufacturer AquaAid are also backing the campaign and has launched a competition for pupils to win a cooler for their school.
