TWENTY five years ago, lovers of fine art in Bolton were treated to their very own society when the Bolton branch of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society (BDFAS) was set up by Norma Mills.
The inaugural meeting took place in October 1976 and Marcus Tillotson -- whose family founded the Bolton Evening News, was elected chairman. He remains chairman to this day.
The society meets on the first Tuesday of each month from October to June where members enjoy a lecture on the fine arts, including painting, architecture and silver.
The society is always looking for new members but points out that any visitors who wish to attend on an occasional basis are always welcome.
In addition to the monthly meetings, it offers a wide social calendar with one very important event being held on Wednesday, October 10 at the De Vere Whites Hotel at the Reebok Stadium.
The lunch is to mark the society's 25th birthday and will be attended by The Mayor and Mayoress, the national chairman and the area chairman. There will be a talk after the lunch.
