Wanderers' high-flying status has not only seen them take to the air on trips to away games - they jetted to Highbury last week - it has also put them in the top flight of transfer speculation.

After checking out German superstars Oliver Bierhoff and Carsten Jancker and the Spanish international, Kiko, in recent weeks, Sam Allardyce found himself being linked with Inter Milan's Turkish international Hakan Sukur this week. The 30-year-old striker, who joined Inter from Galatasaray in a £4 million transfer in the summer of 2000, made 24 appearances in Serie A last season is looking for a club after falling out of favour at the San Siro.

It is not too long ago that the rumour mongers were linking Wanderers with players from Scandinavia, Central Europe and Africa that no-one - other than the odd football "anorak" - had ever heard of. Now they are in the Premiership, they are mentioned in the same breath as high-profile, multi-capped internationals who are attached to some of the biggeats clubs in Europe.

They were mentioned this week along with Fulham and West Ham when Sukur's agent, Hakan Azman, was touting his client round the Premiership.

Even though Allardyce dismissed the speculation out of hand, Sukur saw fit to issue a statement saying he did not want to play for Bolton Wanderers. He fancies playing for Liverpool though.

So does Robbie Fowler!

Actually Fowler was the target in a wild goose chase on Thursday night when a camera crew dashed to the Reebok in response to a tip off that the apparently out of favour Liverpool striker was due to play in the reserves.

He might not be flavour of the month with Gerard Houllier but the England man hasn't fallen so far out of favour at Anfield to be banished to the stiffs the night after getting half an hour in the Champions League.
