SPECTACULAR strikes by last season's top scorer Danny Mills and current hotshot Andy Mason helped Chorley build on their surprise midweek win at Accrington to gain three badly-needed points in the UniBond First Division.

Shot-shy Lincoln, who can do little right against the Magpies, the side that beat them 8-1 last season, were indebted to superb goalkeeping by Steve Curry in the second half which prevented a much heavier defeat.

For Chorley, the encouraging debut of former Rossendale United centre-back Gareth West, contributed significantly to the first clean-sheet of the season at Victory Park.

A quiet first half saw Chorley's classy playmaker David Eatock squander a simple close-range chance but there was also an escape for the Magpies when Paul Burton glanced a free header wide of the post.

Apart from an early Gary Walters blockbuster which Simon Marsh tipped over the bar, Lincoln were on the back foot for most of the second half, only keeper Curry preventing a goal-glut.

He raced out to block Mason's angled shot but had no chance on the hour when the former Leigh striker spun off his marker to meet Noel Corrigan's corner with a magnificent header which flashed into the net for his ninth goal of the season.

Curry then pulled off a breathtaking full-length save by his right-hand post to tip Neil Mitchell's stinging low drive to safety before Eatock engineered Chorley's second on 77 minutes.

Showing wonderful control to keep the ball in play, Eatock teased two defenders as he cut inside before teeing up Mills who calmly stroked the ball just inside the post from 15 yards.

The goal was the signal for Chorley to turn on the style and brilliant approach play led to Mason first rattling a post and then bringing the best out of Curry in the closing minutes with a thunderous drive which the keeper flicked over the bar.
