UNLUCKY Per Frandsen, whose penalty miss proved the turning point in Wanderers' home defeat by Sunderland, has pulled out of the Denmark squad for Saturday's crucial World Cup qualifier against Iceland.

The midfield ace was due to team up in Copenhagen this afternoon with fellow Dane Thomas Sorensen, who saved the penalty and frustrated him a second time by keeping out a 30-yard piledriver. But Frandsen has been forced to withdraw with an ankle injury.

He picked up the injury in a collision with Black Cats defender Darren Williams, for which he was booked, just four minutes after being sent on in a half time substitution. He was able to continue but the ankle, which he injured in the Southampton defeat a fortnight earlier, swelled overnight leaving him no option but to scratch from the international squad.

Victory will guarantee the Danes a place in next summer's finals.
