A DOG which was trapped in a narrow crevice in a quarry rock face was freed after a 75-minute rescue operation.
Firefighters used a long, hooked pole to dig away mounds of earth at the quarry off Lowes Road, Bury, allowing the dog to squeeze through the tiny entrance to safety.
Firefighters battled against fading light during the rescue which happened on Saturday night.
Station Officer Paul Myerscough said: "Everything went well. It was good team work."
The dog was allowed to go free after its ordeal. It is not known who it belonged to.
