BOLTON Wanderers Ladies made light work of progressing through the second qualifying round of the AXA FA Women's Cup at Tempest United with a 9-1 drubbing of South Durham Royals.
The visitors were under pressure from the kick-off with the first Bolton goal coming in just 17 seconds. A deflection from Ann Truffas's cross shot gave Bolton just the start they needed, and the traffic was pretty much one way from that point on.
On 12 minutes, Kim Bain hit the target from outside the area and two minutes later Joanne Fairclough hit a scorcher from the corner of the area into the far top corner of the net.
Almost on half time, Nabeela Butt made it a 4-0 lead with an excellent header from the edge of the six yard box. Wanderers domination continued into the second half. On 67 minutes Joanne Fairclough powered in to head the ball home and a minute later Ann Truffas added her second before Joanne Fairclough completed her hat trick
Nabeela Butt then burst through to score her second and although Durham pulled one back, Bolton's Ann Truffas fired the ball into the net for a ninth goal.
Wanderers are now through to the first round proper which is due to be played on October 28.
Unlucky
In the Lancashire Girls League, Bolton Wanderers Ladies Under 16s put on an excellent performance at Bury. Despite playing the better football, they were unlucky to find themselves a goal down at half time.
Their good play continued into the second half and it looked only a matter of time before they would at least level the scores. Luck proved to be very much against them though, as injury reduced them to 10 players halfway through the second period, and they conceded a further two late goals to lose 3 - 0. Player of the match for Bolton was Tonya Crompton.
Things went better for the Under 12 A squad in their home match against Preston North End A who, before this match, had been only one point behind the unbeaten Wanderers side.
Goals from Sally Worthington (2), Faye Knowles and Rebecca Abbott settled the match 4 - 1 in Bolton's favour. The Carlines Player of the Match was Helen Baron.
