TIME has proved that Bolton's leading citizens of the late 1920s were wise in their decision to make golf available at cut-price rates to the general public by constructing a municipal golf course out of rough farm land at Lostock.
It will be 21 years next May when the then Mayor of Bolton, the late Ald. Henry Warburton, drove the first ball down the fairway of the first hole.
Since that time the course has given pleasure to thousands of players. During the 12 months ending March 31st this year, 18,530 single-round tickets plus 64 annual tickets were sold.

YESTERDAY forenoon, at eleven o'clock, Her Majesty the Queen left Balmoral in a carriage drawn by two horses to visit Tillyprone and Kildrummie. The news that she meant to travel by the way of Ballater preceded her, and a large number of inhabitants and visitors assembled in front of the Invercauld Arms, where it was understood that the horses were to be changed.
When passing through the village, an accident occurred which sent a thrill of horror through the spectators, but which, happily, had not serious result. In turning a sharp corner of the road near the hotel, one of the horses missed its footing and fell on its side. To unfasten the harness and to pull up the other horse was the work of an instant by the attendants. The fall had pulled the bridle rein out of the driver's hand, and when the animal got on its feet it showed an intention to bolt. This was seen by a constable on duty, who held the horse by its head and held it firmly. The whole affair was the work of an instant, and was watched by Her Majesty without the slightest perturbation of discomposure. After a change of horses at the hotel, her Majesty drove to the ruins of Kildrummie, where she stayed nearly two hours. Rail fell heavily on the return journey.
