Ladybridge Athletic played hosts to Bolton Wanderers Soccer Sevens competition in the under 7s North Eastern section.

Peter Almond assistant director of the BWFC Academy said this competition was set up to help forge links between the club and local junior clubs throughout the Bolton area.

This year's event was organised with the help of the BBDMSL, who helped attract over 150 youngsters, all under seven years old. The standard was very high, with Eagley Rangers running out 2-0 winners over Horwich St Mary's dynamos.

In the league Ladybridge Rangers pulled off an amzing 8-0 away win over Bolton lads Club to take over top spot, Eagley Rangers had to settle for a draw as Boothstown Jnrs produced some stubborn defending. Both Oxford Grove and Hindley Juniors had positive results away from home.

In the U8 Alpha Group Bolton County Panthers lost their first game of the season, going down 3-1 at Ladybridge Ath. Alex Trafford bagging a hat-trick and Kaye scoring for Panthers. Westhoughton Rangers staged a remarkable comeback against Hindsford, who led 3-0 thanks to Shaw and Bablinski (2). Ashton, Lowe, Murphy, Griffiths all scoring late on to earn a point. Wigan Town were 1-0 winners against Farnworth Jaguars thanks to a goal from Plant, earning a first win for Wigan. Horwich SM Bombers just edged out Bolton County Pumas in a close 2-1 win, Howell and McGinlay both scored. But the hero was Daniel Cooke who saved a last minute penalty. Bolton Lads/Girls Club shared the points with Hindley Jets, Holland and Yates scoring.

In U8 Beta Group, Brandlesholme Warriors were narrow winners against Westhoughton Park Rangers by 2-1. Beaumont and Aspen on target. Leigh RMI Tigers ran riot at St Andrews winning 7-1, Holt (4), McCullock (2) and Darcy all finding the net. North Walkden were leading Oxford Grove 3-0 before the match was called off. Springside Junior Wolves missed the chance to go top when losing 3-1 against Bromley Cross Eagles, for whom Tidy (2) and Guffog scored. Boothstown coasted to a 4-1 win against Ladybridge Bulldogs, Norris (2), Carkok and Williamson all scoring.

U8 Gamma Group, Winsfield Rovers got a first win with a closely contested 1-0 against Astley Bridge, Conchie scoring the winner. Little Hulton lost 3-1 to Bromley Cross Rhinos, Draper and McCarthy scoring for Rhinos and Bennett scoring a consolation. Horwich SM Torpedos and Hindley Hornets drew 1-1 in another close encounter, Evans for Torpedos and Aspinall for Hornets. \Astley Bridge Crusaders finally played their first game and won 3-0 against Bolton County Cougars, a Thresh hat-trick doing the trick.

In the U9 Section A Horwich St Mary's Vikings produced their best performance in two years to record a terrific 4-1 away victory at Brandlesholme Warriors. Ross Papworth (2), Niall Burke and Thomas Axon-Smith finding the net for the Vikings. Hindley Juniors Jets maintained their 100 per cent record as Kieran Love (2) and Kieran Scriven scored in their 3-0 win over Bolton County Raiders. For the second week running Westhoughton Rangers came from behind three times to snatch a point off Bolton Lads & Girls Club. Jordan Lomax (2) and Josh Halls scored for Lads Club, but Rangers came back with goals from Kieran Edwards and Alex Killey (2), Joshua Bramwell in the Rangers goal produced some outstanding saves.

In the U9 Section B, Hindsford Wolves recorded their first win of the season as they beat Walshaw Park Wolves 3-1. Nathan Chadwick was in outstanding form for Oxford Grove Tigers as they held Astley Bridge Boys to 0-0 draw. A George Lawton hat-trick, together with one apiece for Liam Evans and Nick Farnworth gave Bolton County Lions a 5-1 home win over Eagley Rangers.

In the U9 Section C, North Walkden have an early clear lead at the top as they had a comfortable 7-0 away win at Bolton County Broncos. Bromley Cross Aces produced a strong team performance to win 3-1 at Rivington Juniors. Chris Shorten (2) and Vince Stanton found the net for Bromley Cross, with Ryan Ashcroft scoring the Rivington consolation. Daniel Boss, Jack Sneddon and George Heaton scored for Horwich St Mary's Trojans in a 3-1 home win over Leigh RMI. Bolton County Cougars won 2-1 at Astley Bridge Tigers.

In the U9 Section D, Horwich St Mary's Barbarians won a seven goal thriller at Astley Bridge All Stars. Chris Taylor (3), Alex Hay and debutante Robert Cartwright secured the three points. Boothstown Celtic also scored five, with Ben Chambers (3), Alex Wilde and Michael Eckersley finding the net in their 5-1 win over Oxford Grove Lions. New Bury Knights won away at Horwich St Mary's Aztecs.

In the U10 Section A a comeback by the Lads and Girls Club with two goals by Patel put them book on level terms with Bolton County Aces, but two more by the Aces put the game out of reach. The Aces scorers were Weatherby, Yates, Philpot and Derbyshire. Hindley Jets were the victors in a close game with Hindsford A which they won through goals from Foster and Williams. Aspinal got one for Hindsford. One goal each for Hulme and Lees meant that Bromley Cross and Woodbank shared the points.

In the U10 Section B Brandlesholme A proved their strength in depth with a clear win against a strong Hindley side and four Brandlesholme players making it onto the score sheet -- McKenna, Dyson, Barlow and Patterson put away the Brandlesholme goals. Burrows scored the two for Hindley. A 4-0 scoreline with goals from Corless, McDonald, Samuel and Phillips gave Bolton County SAS a resounding victory against Ladybridge Bulldogs, that would have been a lot closer but for a man of the match performance in goal by Naylor. A hat-trick for Hayhurst and a goal by Hamdan won a local derby game for Woodbank against Brandlesholme B. Brookes and Price scored for Brandlesholme. Westhoughton Rangers and Atherton Collieries continue with winning ways in their victories against Farnworth Cougars and Bolton County Gurkhas.

In the U10 Section C, another win for Leigh RMI Eagles included goals from Parker, Ratcliffe, Farnworth, Darcy and a hat-trick from Osborne. Harris, Davies and Truesdale goals secured the win for Horwich Cougars against YM Cobras. Farnworth Leopards had a close game with Hindsford, but had enough firepower to win with goals from Madden, Mitchel and Burton. Ardrey got two for Hindsford. Ladybridge Lions are enjoying their football at the moment and four Helsby goals and one for Halloran gave them another win in their game with Bromley Cross.

In the U10 Section D, Oxford Grove took an early lead in their game with Hindley Gazelles but could not hold a rampant Hindley side who won the game in style with a quality passing game and goals from D'Orville, Lee, Broad and Witherington. Wilson and Oliver scored for Oxford Grove, Bolton County Warriors were again scoring bags full of goals, this time in the defeat of Horwich Jaguars. Dorsey (3), Brookes and Farnworth scored the Warriors goals. Parkinson, Brooks and Aspinall scored the goals for Farnworth Lions in their victory against Ladybridge Crusaders. Morrison scored the consolation goal for the Crusaders.
