WITH survival the name of the game for Tempest United following promotion to the Premier Division the point picked up in a 0-0 home draw with Barrow Sports Club has to be counted as satisfactory.
Chairman Alan Westhead explains: "With Mick Bennett and Jon Senior in their first season in charge staying up is our priority so its another point in the bag.
"We are so determined to keep our Premier Division place that we declined to enter the Amateur Shield this season and concentrate on the league. We have some quality kids playing in the Reserves and we need to make sure everything is right when they come through to 1st team level."
The Tempest 2nds drew 2-2 at Springfields with one of those starlets Jonathan Ford getting the first and Martin Jones the second. Debutant Kyle Hazeldear was highly impressive.
Blackrod Town went down 2-0 at home to Freckleton whilst the Reserves won 4-3 away at the same opposition. Goals from Garner and Bentham were not enough for Eagley as they lost 3-2 at Barnsoldswick United, although there was brighter news of the Reserves won beat Garstang 2-1 at home, Hill and Horrobin scoring.
In Division Two Stoneclough went down 2-1 at Mill Hill St Peters. Tottington United beat third place Thornton Cleveleys 1-0 at home, Dean scoring the vital only goal and the Reserves won 4-3 at Todmorden Borough. Tempest's home game against Wyre Villa next Saturday has a 12:30pm kick off.
