PREMIER Division leaders Ramsbottom A scored a comprehensive 8-1 win over their B team which gives them a seven-point lead on top of the division. The victory included three wins each for Mike Moir and Dave Newton.
Horwich Hilton A jump into second place despite losing 5-4 to Cricketers who drop to third, a treble here for Phil Biggs for the Horwich side who only fielded two players.
An excellent treble by Adam Bleakley plus two wins from Louise Rosenthal gave Farnworth a narrow 5-4 win against Little Lever. All three Wharton players -- Bob Jackson, Barry Elliot and Glen Payne -- won two sets each in their 6-3 win over Hilton A, Ron Pennington scoring the three wins for Hilton. Lyndsey Thornton and Steve Stringer both trebled for Lostock who beat Ramsbottom C 6-3.
Little Lever B retain the top spot in Division One following their 6-3 win over Heaton A which featured two wins each for Roy Costello, Richard Simmons and Paul Tatlock, evergreen John Scowcroft trebled for Heaton.
Nomads A jump into second place thanks to an 8-1 win over Horwich Hilton B, trebles here for Craig Johnson and Dennis Collier. Wharton B scored an excellent 7-2 win on their visit to Mosses which included a treble by Brian Doxey, and Chorley Old Road ran out comfortable 6-3 winners against Heaton B with all three players winning two sets.
New Division Two leaders Hilton C scored an impressive 7-2 win against Little Lever which included a treble by Adey Denson plus two wins each by Matt Heap and Steve Barber. Three teams have scored 20 points -- BEN A who won 6-3 on their visit to Nomads, which included a treble by Mike Heaton; Hilton B, who lost at home 6-3 to Wingates, despite a treble by Pete Bladen; and Ladybridge C, who went down 5-4 to the improving Heaton D, a treble here for Tommy Ryan on his debut for Ladybridge. Frank Green and Duncan Kay both trebled for Black Dog in their 7-2 win over Meadow Hill A.
Halliwell Rd Meths are the new leaders of Division Three following their 6-3 win over a depleted Ladybridge E team, the win included a treble by Ian Bateson. Hilton C drop to second place after their 6-3 defeat at the hands of Hilton D, which was mainly due to the treble by Brian Hall. Mike Smith trebled for Ladybridge D in their 5-4 win against Heaton E, and trebles by Rob and Chris Hall, plus two wins by James Fletcher, gave the Halls their 8-1 win at Farnworth C.
Jubilee A now top Division Four thanks to an excellent 6-3 win on their visit to YMCA; three wins by George Dawson, two by Bhikhu Patel and one by Roger Bertrand secured the points. Trebles by Richard Hannant and Peter Ellis helped Memorial Road to their 8-1 win over Heaton G, as did the trebles by Joe Walk and Jim Freely for Ramsbottom in their 8-1 win against Hilton G. John Birchall Snr scored a treble for Ladybridge F who went down 6-3 at Hilton H.
In Division Five, the Hilton 'I' team of John Price, Ron Ainsworth and George Laks scored maximum points against Ladybridge H to remain top of the table. Paul Jackson trebled for Ellesmere A in their 7-2 win at Hilton K to retain second place. Meadow Hill C recorded their first win of the season with an 8-1 scoreline against Ellesmere B, the win included trebles by Jackie Smith and Peter Holden and two wins by Colin Cartwright.
