STEVE Banks, who has been unable to oust Jaaskelainen from the number one spot this season, despite being in exceptional form and in a confident frame of mind, confirmed that it was Nicky Southall - man of the match in the cup victory over Forest - whose shot caused the damage.
"We'd been doing set-pieces and had just finished training," the keeper explained. "We were walking off and he hit the ball towards the goal and I turned round, saw the ball coming and put my hands up to stop it. It just hit the ends of my fingers.
"It was an accident and thankfully the lads got us through to the next round so, hopefully, I can look forward to playing in that one because I want the games."
For his part, Southall was relieved last night to put his injury problems behind him. A recurring hamstring problem had restricted him to just three substitute appearances in the Premiership and one full appearance against Walsall in the second round of the Worthington Cup.
"I came back too early last time and pulled the hamstring again," he revealed. "This time I had to be patient and it paid off."
